Is Chess a Sport?

so we had a heated debate about whether or not chess was a sport in my class the other day. Of course the kids who were on the so called chess "team" were backing up chess and saying it was a sport. As the rest of the class said it wasnt including myself. To me a sport is something which requires endurance and some sort of strength. Sports such as Volleyball, basketball, football, softball, track, wrestling, swimming, soccer, and baseball require these characteristics where as chess dosnt. It dosnt take much stregnth to move a chess piece or much endurance to think quickly. Your not multi tasking such as in other sports when your running and you have to know where the ball is or where your opponent is. As in chess your sitting in a quiet room staring at a board the slightest sound of a pin drop that doesnt sound very intense if you ask me lol. A sport is also catergorized as a group of people acting active lol. in chess there is no group effort. In any other sport theres a group effort except for golf. But golf requires endurance, accuracy, and strength. Any ways back to the matter at hand;
